THE LUNCHROOM
Status: Complete and sitting at the bottom of a closet.
A push or a fall?
A tragic accident or a murder?
One thing is certain though, over the past six months, Principal Claudia Nosek has made more than one enemy. Who then, among the faculty and staff of Liberty High School, is holding a secret?
Sophie is stuck in a rut. With a stale marriage and a monotonous job as the Department Chair for English at Liberty High School, her life sucks. When Kate Foster, the new teacher at Liberty gets embroiled in a fight between two students over a Cleopatra wig, Sophie takes her under her wing.
Kate, a young British, newly-minted widow, running from grief and looking to start a new life, relishes their friendship as she begins to figure out who she is? Widow? Singleton? Spinster? At work, Kate meets Assistant Principle Brian McFarlane, who promptly falls head over heels for her. Brian is sick of being manipulated by his boss, Claudia, has a shifty past and cannot seem to get past a second date with anyone. Brian is worried he’s still a boy and not a man.
Then, during the annual Valentine’s Day Bake Off, Claudia Nosek: principal, mother and city renowned bitch is found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs at the school, and everyone begins to wonder; who killed Claudia Nosek?
Sophie, Brian and Kate find themselves at the center of a murder mystery in a school full of politics, secrets and lies and under the scrutiny of nosey yet handsome Detective Greg Blossom.
The novel is structured around three deaths; Kate’s husband Rob, Claudia’s accident and Aaron—Greg Blossom’s first and only unsolved case. Through the novel the reader is shown the journey of death itself, the ramifications death poses, and the process of grief. All in all, the deaths in the novel allow the characters to become detectives in their own lives as they fumble around for clues and answers. The Lunchroom uses a variety of mediums and movement through time expertly to discover not only why and how someone would kill Claudia, but then moves forward with Claudia’s death into forward action and into her past.
